There is about 101,314,780 female population in Pakistan that makes about 48% of the total population despite being such a large fraction of the population only 22% of women contribute in the total economy comparing it to the USA where there are 50.02% women population making 57% of the labor force. These statistics not only show the contribution of women in Pakistan but also depicts a picture that highlights the lack of opportunities for women in our society. These statistics turn more horrifying depicting 70-90% of women in Pakistan are subjected to different kinds of violence including physical, mental, and emotional abuse. In our culture delivering women, their rights have always been an issue that has been raised throughout our history at different levels.
women's rights campaigns have always surfaced from time to time in our society and on some occasions have achieved incredible milestones. From the right to vote to the right to preside, women have achieved a great amount of liberty but, was it enough? We still see those campaigns alive and trying to raise their voice but what are they trying to say? One of the examples is the recent outcome of Aurat march, emerging as a new voice for women's rights in Pakistan. But every time this movement takes roads and streets to propagate their issues, a series of questions and controversies bloom concerning whether the slogan and issues raised by them are per the dignity of our cultural norms or they are way out of proportion. These debates on ethics rather than the cause of the movement shed a shadow over the real issue of women's rights. But if we peak our head out of these controversial topics, we realize the issues truly exist and they are far more serious than “mera jisam meri marzi and apni roti khud bnao” in fact these slogans masked the real issues concerning un equality in our cultural norms for women and problem woman have to face throughout their life due to these inequalities besides it is the only reason these march fails to reach any prominent milestones and its inability to unionize women under its banner.
If women want to fight for their rights, they have to change those slogans and constitution that just concern the elite’s society of women instead they have to raise those issue and slogans which every common tongue can relate to and is willing to fight for, the rights of women in its true essence. An Aurat March whose constitution is based on unionizing women from every corner, creating new platforms for women where they can contribute to society, raising voice against any kinds of violence against them, promoting education for women, and spreading awareness among them about their basic rights and how they can safeguard them. Moreover, every individual of the society despite his sex shall contribute to this cause and empowering them so that they can attain their suppressed rights
